Is it absolutely pointless to apply to UNC with less than a 3.74?

I have a pretty mediocre 3.7 and I’m only in the top 10.3% with a strong upward trend since freshman year. I have an SAT score way above the 75% percentile - 2230. Essays and EC’s are strong. However, I’m an Asian Male and I’m out of state.

According to the common data set http://oira.unc.edu/files/2015/05/cds_2014_2015.pdf only 1.43% of the freshman admitted class has between a 3.5-3.74. Honestly, if I only have a 1.43% chance of getting accepted, I really don’t see the point of applying especially since I’m a non-athlete, OOS, asian male.

Advice?

You never know. Obviously you know what you are up against. Are you from an odd/less popular State? They like to have all states represented in the freshman class :slight_smile:

3.7 is fine especially with such a high SAT to back it up. If you got the essay, extracurriculars, and summer shit then why not
