Hey CC,

I am about to apply for a community service job. In order to apply I need to call the company. I was wondering if it is a bad idea to call them on Saturday? I just feel like I should not be calling them for an interview during the weekend, because they might think I have bad manners or something.

What do you guys say?
Thanks in advance!

Call during business hours to request direction/consideration as a volunteer. Some agencies “screen” volunteers…others require only a bit of training. Examples…Hospice has extensive training and screening for obvious reasons for volunteers–I used to screen to keep people out who had the wrong reasons to wish to “help” terminally ill people. Other agencies have a simple orientation that is not time consuming.

I would start with a simple cover letter and a resume which is fine to send over the weekend, asking for consideration and further direction. close with a statement on your availability for interviews in person or on the phone. There is usually one person assigned to volunteer coordination in an agency. If you do call and someone answers today, you could inquire for the name and email address of the person who coordinates volunteers so as to direct your resume and cover letter to the proper person.

good luck! hope it is a place you enjoy serving as a volunteer
