I'm new to CC and just like someone else that posted I feel really intimidated by everyone's perfect stats. I'm going to be a junior and I haven't taken the SAT's or ACT's yet, I'm planning on just taking the prep courses my high school offers and taking the ACT's with the rest of the junior class, and seeing where that takes me. But lately it seems like i'm already too old and too late to even get into a decent college. Is this true?? Most of my friends have been prepping since junior high, some as early as 6th grade! Somebody please tell me my good grades and sport will guarantee me acceptance into Northwestern or University of Chicago. (My heart's set on one of those two)

I don't have a problem telling you all my stats because i have very few. I have a 4.4 weighted GPA, top 2% of my class of 908, I'm on the badminton team and I'm a peer leader at my school. I hope to volunteer at my local hospital the moment I turn 16 (In december). Does that sound like enough for a college to notice me or will I be turned away because of my lack of ec's and my lack of desire to take the ACT's and SAT's at every possible chance i can get?? Somebody please tell i can still get into a pre-med program!!

Just chill dude, what happens...well, happens. I had stats similar to yours, with a high SAT and I got waitlisted at the two schools I had my heart set on (Penn and BC). I'm still going to a very good school and I'm happy now, believe me if you take everything in stride it will all work out for you. Even if you don't get into one of the two (which yes, both of them are competetive and even applicants with perfect stats may get rejected) I'm sure you'll find somewhere to be happy. I just recommend (from my own let-down experience) that you find a few other schools which you think you can get into, that you find respectable and that most of all you would be happy at, just in case your situations (admissions and financial) at those two don't pan out.

thanks. i feel better now, but it's still hard to relax when you've got pressure coming in from all sides, especially those with the million ec's and perfect stats. i guess i should look into more safety schools.
