I’m currently taking AP Physics 1 and genuinely do not know a single thing. Ive managed to keep an A in the class but I know I have no chance at even getting a 2 on the exam. Should I just not take it? My school offers the exam for free so the money isn’t the issue it’s more what will colleges think of it?
My DD did not take her APStats exam and it wasn’t even discussed with the teacher. We just did not sign up.
She also had an A in the class (with a lot of extra credit) but had no hope of doing well on the exam. She was still excepted at a top school.
Khan Academy has AP Physics 1 test prep: https://www.khanacademy.org/science/ap-physics-1/prepare-for-the-ap-physics-1-exam
Definitely study for the exam, take it and then you get what you get. You don’t have to report the score.
It’s best to do well.
You have an A in the class; apparently your teacher thinks you’ve learned something.
It’s time to prioritize, spend some time studying, and to do well.
You still have time! Study using a prep book and Khan Academy. If you start now, you have a decent chance of passing with a 3+.
While true, the reality is that 60% have failed the AP Physics 1 exam every year since it was introduced. There should be no expectation of any change in score distribution this year. Presumably, a large chunk of those students who failed the exam also had an A in the class.
That said, if you don’t like the score, don’t report it on your application. Problem solved (assuming the HS does not list test scores on the transcript). At the end of the day, trying is always better than giving up.
