If you had to guess a percentage of kids that stay at their college during the summer let me know. I'm planning on going to UW-Madison, and I hear that it is awesome during the summer. My mom is really freaking out over the idea, and thinks that basically everyone comes home. I would like to know how many kids stay during the summer, but still visit during the holidays.

Depends on the school as well as what year you are. Younger students still living in dorms usually go home unless they get a job there in the summer and then sublease an apartment/house for a few months. Older students with year-long leases will usually stick around since it doesn’t make sense to pay for a place for 3 months if you’re not living there.

UW-Madison is awesome during the summer! Though I haven’t stayed for a summer yet, I am planning on doing so this summer and I’ve been here in early fall/late spring and it’s just amazing. Lots of people definitely do stay, probably most upperclassmen since they do have yearlong leases (though some students do leave, especially out of state). People will get jobs or internships or take summer classes, and everyone’s outside all the time, chilling on the terrace or State Street. Freshmen do typically go home because they live in dorms. If you can stay, you really should - I’m absolutely stoked for the summer and everyone I know is as well.
