Is it ethical to interview when you already accepted internship?

Hello,

I hope this hasn't been asked/answered in a previous thread. If so, I apologize.

I've been applying for numerous internships and I have been offered quite a few interviews. I was offered an internship with my top choice and accepted, but I still have interviews scheduled for other places I have applied to.

I don't want to interview when I have no intention of accepting an offer from anyone else. I feel I would be wasting the interviewer's time and taking time away from a student who would really value an internship.

Would it be in poor taste to cancel my upcoming interviews, one of which is scheduled very, very soon?

No, it wouldn’t be inappropriate to cancel upcoming interviews. Just be polite and professional, saying that you recently accepted another offer but you greatly appreciate their time and consideration. Most employers are very used to this, and they won’t take offense, as long as you aren’t rude about it. It’s better to let them know what the situation is then to just interview with no intention of working there.

It is far more ethical to cancel the interviews than go through with them once you have accepted a position elsewhere. I agree with the previous poster, too, that it would be good to tell them that although you appreciate the offer of an interview, you have accepted a position elsewhere.

Agreed with above. Once you accept an offer, you should withdraw your applications from all other companies. Nobody is going to be upset at you for accepting an offer. Also, your decision to withdraw from consideration should have no negative impact on prospects at full time positions with those companies in the future.
