Is it hard to get a job in Engineering upon graduation?

I always thought the useless majors that nobody could get jobs in were the liberal arts one. But then I recently found it surprising that many of my engineering friends who graduated from UCLA are having a hard time getting jobs =( I mean, most of them don't have jobs upon graduation, but they DO find something within 9 months.

Some have to relocate to different geographical regions (either going to NorCal or even out of state). And some work jobs that aren't exactly "engineering" jobs.

Is it really that hard for engineers to find jobs? I thought it was always a high demand field o.O

UCLA focuses on too much theory. Companies want hands-on experience.

Hahahahahaha

Not for Comp Sci

depends on your gpa. if you have a competent gpa (i’d say anything over 3.2) you should be fine. however i highly highly suggest that you find work experience or an internship or whatever whenever you can. ucla does focus a lot on theory, so you really need that practical experience to land you a good job upon graduation.

Seems pretty easy in the CS department…I feel like we get 10 job opportunities in our E-mail every day. Possibilities are definitely there. I think certain types of engineering might be hurt by the economy though, like mechanical engineering.
