Is it normal to add schools to the “queue” at this point in the process?

My DD has already submitted applications to 10 schools, and has passed 4 out of 5 prescreens and waiting on 4 more, but decided last week to add 6 more schools, and while I know that casting a wide net is important and normal- is it too late to do this.? Most of the new schools have a Dec 1st deadline and a couple later but all that I’ve read and know is that it’s better to submit early to get callbacks on the schedule as they could fill up. I’m sweating while she is just calm and methodical about it but fear she might be too late. She is clearly is the drivers seat and will not let me help with any of the Prescreen uploading or applications (which varies school to school) I can only sit back and just watch and hope she knows what she is doing… is anybody relating to this…???

I think it’s pretty normal! Especially if having options is a concern. D has added schools throughout the process when some prescreens didn’t pan out, still has one more to do!

You might be unhappy if she is applying for FA at all those schools. It can be a lot of work for you.

We are in the same boat. We are at 13 and holding, despite hearing about so many that apply to so many more. I’m worried because we are waiting on three more prescreen answers that we might need to add a couple more. I just don’t know! She is comfortable with her choices, but I worry that there aren’t going to be enough options.

Casting a wide net is more important now than ever. We are in our third straight year of this. For my oldest, during the first year of auditions, she auditioned at 9 schools and yielded one result that was not the right fit and resulted in a gap year. The second time around, she auditioned for 12 schools and ended up with two acceptances (and is now at one of the top programs). Her sister is now in the process, and after seeing what the last two years were like, decided to audition for 15 programs. Adding extra schools now is a great idea, especially considering how expensive and time consuming this whole process is.

Not unusual at all. You can search threads on schools that accept later applications.

Per FA - Whether the additional schools are last minute formal applications or walk-ins during Unifieds, it is wise to track the specific requirements (deadline to send already completed FASA or if the school needs a CSS profile submitted). Sometimes those details can get lost in the unplanned shuffle, which might affect your ability to attend (ie-if offered an acceptance without financial aid due to an administrative glitch).

Welp…we added three schools tonight. lol

Wow! Now I’m scared. My DD actually has a list, but we just started submitting applications this weekend. Turns out we’ve already missed several deadlines. On the bright side on paper we’ve created a list of about 30 colleges, so hopefully we can get 15 auditions out of that.

I added schools throughout the year. My final decision, I didn’t even apply/audition for until March. It’s a crazy process. You just have to trust in what is best for you and don’t worry about what’s “normal”.

My D added school pretty darned late in the process … she didn’t even audition at Nebraska Wesleyan til mid March.

She’ll graduate from there in May. ?
