If you insist on playing to numbers, those four hours it takes to get through a single SAT sitting would be better spent increasing one's total volunteer hours.

Haha, usually it's the parents who might go, "2390? Meh. you did 'ok'"

well a 2300 is great, really really great. Most people are advising he not retake, but in the end if he applies to his unis and doesn't get in, 99% chance he wont' get in because of his SAT scores, but if he doesn't get in, he might blame you because there's the "IF" factor. "If" you let him retake it as he wants, and still gets rejected or gets a lower mark, you can tell him you told him so and he can't blame anyone but himself..

If he is absolutely sure he'll get higher, take it...but SAT tests differ each time, and CR can get harder or easier...i've known many people who thought they can do better and did a lot worse...and in the end they blame it on the test. So if he is absolutely sure, then take it. But in all honesty, he'd oly be improving his score by a few points, and a 2300 and a 2350 are considered the same. My friend from school got rejected from harvard for a 2400 single sitting and accepted my other friend with a 2120 because the 2120 friend had better ECs than the 2400 "genius"

So SATS aren't everything.
