I have a borderline A-, but it’s going to be a hard fight during the final exams, I might not be able to keep my A- and might get a B+ as a final grade. I am a 10th grader right now, and so far, I have all A’s and a straight A’s in freshman year. I was going to be in AP Calc AB, but I was kicked out(long story), partly because I did precalc as an online course [I took algebra 2 last year]. I want to take AB and BC the next two years. I am interested in CS and want to get into UC Berkeley. Help!
A few B’s won’t keep you out of Berkeley, but you have the right idea keeping them to a minimum.
As course rigor increases, some reasonable drops in grades should be expected. AP Statistics is an upperclassman class, and even in the event that you do not earn a desirable grade in there, as long as there isn’t a global downward trend in your grades, I doubt your chances will be significantly impacted.
This isn’t related to the repercussions of a B on your transcript, but if I’m understanding things properly, you are enrolled in AP Stats with no other concurrent math courses. Personally, I don’t think it’s a good idea to take AP Calculus AB two years after an online Pre-Calculus course, especially one that your school is unfamiliar with.
Have you looked at Pre-Calculus at a local college? You could take it as a refresher if you are dead set on Calculus in high school, and plus, you will get college credit for it. Be warned that such a class is probably going to move extremely fast, as it is what is typically a year-long course at the high school level crammed to a single semester.
Considering how difficult AP Stats is, I highly doubt they will mind it, especially if it is just one B. I know kids who had an A in AP Calculus AB, but then got a C or so in AP Stats.
Yes, I was given this same advice, since Stats is less of a math course and more of a real-world course, I would lose my critical thinking skills needed for proofs and algebraic equations… I am independently (re)studying an accelerated Algebra 2 textbook, to refresh my skills.

Why didn’t you just take precalculus this year instead of online?
Hey @calhighkid I’m very curious why you got kicked out of AP Calc because I’m planning on doing the same thing you are; taking pre-calc online and taking AP Calc AB next year. Does FLVS / online calc not provide good enough foundation?
