Is it OK to Graduate from a Non-Ranked MBA Program

I'm thinking attending a non-ranked school, in the state in which I am currrently living in. The total tuition is only $10,000. With a GA position, or a part-time job, I could end up with no debt, and some change in my pocket.

If I join several clubs, do an internship, and graduate with a high GPA, is it likely that I will be able to get a job in excess of $80,000, when the average is closer to $50,000?

Schools out of the T25-30 are really only worth it if your company pays for it or if you plan on staying local. Do you have enough work experience to make the MBA valuable? What do you plan on doing with it? An MBA by itself will not do much for you.

I’m high up at a mid-sized nonprofit. I hold a B.A. in the humanities. Lets just say, my friends who studied finance, are making much more than me.

I’d like to either make a transition into finance or work for a larger nonprofit.

^ It then sounds like an MBA could be the right thing for you.

It also sounds like a no-name degree is not going to help you transition into finance.

^That depends on who recruits at the school (if any), what the past placement rate is like, and how well you can build on previous experience.

kinglin,
some schools that aren’t nationally ranked have a strong reputation regionally. For example, MBA graduates from the University of Denver/Daniels School of Business do quite well in Denver and Minneapolis, as wel as all over the west in general. Is the school you are considering one of those?

^Good point. There is too much nonsense about an MBA from a non-top school being useless. If you’re looking to transition into investment banking or management consulting, then yes, that is largely true. If you’re looking solely to gain business training for any number of other occupations outside NYC, then I don’t see how any (legitimate) MBA degree can be ‘useless’.

“Finance” typically refers to ibanking and consulting (on this forum atleast) imo. If he is looking at commercial or industry, then yes it matters less.
