Is it possible to do 6 courses in one semester?

Hey guys,

I’m a business school undergraduate student from Australia. I’m thinking about doing an exchange over to UMD in 2019 sem 2 and was wondering if it’s possible to do 6 subjects in the fall semester. Also, if it is possible to do it, is it normal to do 6 subjects or is that too much?

6 would be about 18 credits, maybe more, maybe less My D has done 17 credits some semesters. It really depends on the courses and the amount of time and work required.

I think I did 18 credits once, I’m not sure… it was a long time ago.

But the number of credits is probably less important than the course content and how difficult you’ll find it.

15 or 16 credits per semester is probably a lot more typical.

I missed a semester due to health and still wanted to graduate “on time” with my friends. This meant taking between 18- 21 credits per semester my junior and senior yr. Senior yr was a little easier as 6 credits were independent study based working on a project with a professor ( lot of work but not the typical study time - I was producing a television show that aired on a local network affiliate). It can be done. I didn’t miss any parties either so you can still have a ton of fun. Just be very organized and disciplined.

That was over 30 yrs ago and I still think about the schedule when I get busy today. Helps remind me that “I’ve done this before”. Good lessons for life.
