Is it possible to get a better financial aid award in the second year??

I wanted to ask that is it possible to get a better financial aid award in the 2nd year of college?
For example if i get a package of say $X in the freshman year and have to reapply for aid every year... is it possible that i get more aid the next year when i apply for aid?

Depends on a few things…

If the school guarantees to meet need, and your family’s income drops, then you could get more aid.

However, if the school doesn’t meet need, then it may not matter if your family’s income drops, you still might not get more aid.

What is your situation? Are you just “hoping” for more aid next year? Does your school “meet need”? Do you expect family income to drop?

I see that you’re an int’l…does your school promise to meet need for int’ls?

yeah i am an international and got a lot of aid from Union College… it is need based!
i was just wondering about what would it be like the next year… but i can expect the same amount of aid the next year in case my family circumstances don ot change, right?

Doesn’t Union give merit aid and promise to meet need? Do you have a merit scholarship in your award and are there stipulations (such as a minimum gpa) on keeping it? I think they expect a minimum student contribution…at least they did last year.

If you’re an incoming freshman, your best bet would be to look at the FA webpages and/or email your question to the FA office there. This is a common question (will my need-based aid remain the same if my circumstances are unchanged) that schools answer readily.
