I screwed up my first examination and got 20% below average. I was wondering if its possible to recover from this or should I drop the class. An tips would be helpful

It’s not the end of the workd to get a “B” in orgo from Northwestern. It’s regarded as one of the hardest courses in the nation.

I sometime wonder why they are making it so difficult. Our med school admit rate may be more like 85/90% instead of 80% if they are a bit easier on the kids.

^Do you need it to graduate? That is, do you need it to satisfy your major (chemistry, biochemistry, chemE, BME…)? Do you need it for just premed requirements? If it’s the latter, you have the option to take it elsewhere in the summer (summer jobs/internships are hard to get these days anyway).

Is the mean C+ or B-? Besides the 0.3 difference, B- is just a lot more pleasing visually. When I took it, it was C+ (yike!).

You’d have to beat the average by 20% next time just to get back to average. It depends on how much you think you are smarter than the average kid in the orgo class.

kleibo, to get a B you would have to score above average on all of the tests. However, that was definitely not the case for me

^Especially if the mean is C+ instead of B-, you’ll have to score WELL above average to get just a B.

When is the last day to drop without “W” shown on transcript?

Mean is B- in Orgo. And it’s more rational to assume you’ll do the same or slightly better than substantially outperform on the future tests.

The midterm i just got back is 1/6 of our final grade. I am sure I couldve done better and made some stupid mistakes. However, after the next midterm, the drop deadline will have passed and I’m not sure what I would do if i didnt improve significantly

My Daughter used flashcards. She took them with her everywhere she went. She also complained about grades but wound up ok. I think she downloaded them from the internet.

Good Luck!
