my college book described u chicago as "where fun comes to die", is this true? is everyone really obsessed with school, or are there laid back kids too?

The phrase "where fun comes to die" is applied in the traditional sense where people believe that there is no fun to be had when working. UChicago students love their work and love to have fun and often both worlds intermingle, and nerds enjoying themselves while working is considered fun dying by some people. Needless to say, im not one of those people :-)

Of course, my hours on campus can be counted on one hand, but my impression:

If talking about theoretical physics concepts that you barely understand until 3am with friends is more fun than any party or game - you will do well.

Nerd pride!
