Any reason not to submit all the rd applications in now while waiting for ed decision? Will they look at them? Will they consider your apps alongside other apps from your highschool that are ed?
$$$ Some don’t want to submit in case they have an ED they get accepted to.
Some schools will look at them (or at least start processing them) but I doubt they will compare you to the ED group.
Totally agree on both counts. $$$ and colleges will not look at until ED decisions are made.
but by submitting now wouldn’t they start setting up interviews?
…but if money is no object and you don’t have test results or any significant achievements coming up this month, why not? You’ll have to withdraw them if you get into your ED school.
Personally I’d have them completed -essays and all - but not hit the button until the ED result comes in.
That totally depends upon the college.
I guess I’m thinking that the ed is a longshot so want to get going on the rest of them- setting up interviews, ect. Plus because it’s a small high school and each college/university is only going to take a few from our class wouldn’t it help for them to see your application early alongside other strong ed contenders?
I’m talking about top 20 colleges/Universities
agreed with post #4. As far as interview is concerned, it depends on the college.
From what I understand, your application will be kept and reviewed only after all the other RD applications are in. You might enjoy reading The Gatekeepers - about the admission process. You will not get any bump from being seen before others from your highschool. In all likelyhood all the apps from your HS will be seen by the same admissions person at the same time.
Despite the urban legend, most colleges will not say there is a quota/min/max for any HS. Additionally, as I said earlier, colleges will not look at RD applications early, and when they do read your application, they will most likely read it at the same time as the other applications from your HS.
They may not say it but I wholeheartedly believe they will only take a few from each school.
If it is rolling, early submission may be a good idea, but I would not do it before your ED or EA result as that may change your plan completely. Just have them ready for submission would be a great idea.
Having them ready is great. And I would get your test scores sent. But there is no benefit to sending the apps early. The college isn’t going to do anything with them until ED decisions are out. If you don’t get into your ED, send the RD apps then.
Just by starting the school on the Common App my D has been getting interview requests. She has done 3 interviews for schools she hasn’t applied to yet.
that is interesting. any chance you can tell me which schools are doing this?
Submit now if:
- College has rolling admission, or you can apply EA.
- College's deadline for applications or scholarships is before the ED college's notification date.
Otherwise, have applications ready to go if your ED decision is not admission with enough financial aid. If ED admits with enough financial aid, then you do not need to spend they money on those other applications.
