If you have been accepted to colleges, some of them will pay for your visit if you
can demonstrate financial need.

If you are a junior and want to visit colleges, you have the option to make
virtual visits. Look up the college name under YouTube and you will find videos
posted for example by TheU.

Another cool way to visit virtually is to use Google Earth. Type in the name of the college
and the state and you can fly there virtually and eventake in the 3D buildings etc
on your tour.

If you can’t afford to visit colleges you’re considering applying to, that’s a good indication that you probably should apply to colleges closer to home.

It’s only on CC where it seems that most students are applying to colleges all over the U.S. or even all over the world. Most college students go to a college that’s within 250 miles of home.

Even if you get excellent financial aid from a college, the aid covers trips home for the Dec. holidays and at the end of the school year. Aid doesn’t cover coming home for long weekends or assisting your parents in helping you move in, yet most students get move-in assistance from their parents, who also enjoy participating in orientation activities for parents.

Parents also usually wish to come to their kids’ graduations, which can be difficult or impossible if the college is located far from home.

If you want to visit colleges to see if you’d like to apply there, but you can’t afford the travel costs, first try touring local colleges to get a flavor for different types of campuses (small LAC, large public U, and so forth). Find out when representatives from distant campuses you’re interested in will be in your area, and go chat with them.
