I was wondering if it was too late to start taking prerec for med school beginning sophomore year in college. I have all the math prereqs down but need to start on the chem series. Would staying at college over 4 years hurt my chances of getting into med school?

It's not too late. A sample schedule could go something like this:
Sophomore Year: General Chem 1 and 2 w/lab, Bio 1 and 2 with Lab
Junior Year: Orgo 1 and 2 w/ lab, Physics 1 and 2 with lab, maybe some english classes too.

You should talk to a pre-med advisor at your school about your best course at this point, but it's definitely not too late.

Many people decide late that they want to go to medical school. Some much later that late in frosh year. As noted above, it is possible to finish all the course work in time to apply during your senior year. However, it may not be a good idea. Doing two heavy premed courses each during your sophomore and junior years could be very tough. You will know where you stand academically vs your classmates, and your premed advisor should be able to tell you just how tough your sophomore and junior years will be if you do this.
