Is it too soon???

...for an update from all the parents of the new Miami freshman class???

Would love to hear how it is going, the surprises, the classes, the roomies...

My D is settling in nicely. She was able to get her schedule adjusted - force added the honors class she had wanted, which had the added attraction of making her M/W/F schedule a little easier to handle. She also exempted first semester piano. She likes her teachers, and seems surprised that classes are actually interesting!

She and her roommate seem to get along well, and they have "joined forces" with the roommies across the hall, so there's almost always someone available to go to dinner or hang out. None of them seem like carbon copies of one another, which I think is nice.

My D is a bit shell-shocked at the amount of immediate homework - No grace period for settling in! She's trying to attend a few club and activity meetings, too, to find a niche, but it's hard with so much homework to have time to shop around.

They've had really bad heat in Ohio. D is grateful for A/C in her dorm. But they've opened up some of the other non-dorm buildings overnight and allowed kids to bring sleeping bags! I know in a few short months this heat will be a distant memory!

Tell her to keep the faith on the heat. Rarely does it last into September which is usually a beautiful month along with October.

Biunx - Did they have tornadoes yesterday? It was the first time my son (near Columbus) had to go to the dorm basement. Yikes.

Ooh, good to hear about the music class! I was actually just about to PM you and ask. I've met that professor, and she is fascinating! If your D still needs to get her glasses fixed, there is an optometrist near Kroger. It's a bit of a walk, but it's doable. I believe it's called Family Vision Center.

weenie- no tornadoes, but the heat has been bad-- I'm jealous of everyone with A/C!

I'll let her know about the vision place. I just mailed her an eyeglass repair kit yesterday (cost all of $1.29 so I told her if she figures out something else to do sooner, that would be fine). She has her bike, so Kroger distance isn't too bad.

Weenie - yikes. Wonder what the effect of Denison being up on a hill has?

oops...more later
