Is it true that colleges like to see improvement?

I have been told this by a few that colleges like to see "grade improvement" but not sure if it's true or people are trying to make us feel better lol.

Our daughter, historically high achieving, was in a very poor and unhappy schooling situation for 9th/10th and her grades reflected it. Total GPA 3.4/3.6 weighted. She's now happy in a more rigorous program that allows her to take most of her classes at the community college for duel credit. She finished 1st semester of junior year with a 4.0 (4.7 weighted.) I believe that pulls her total up to a 3.5/3.7 weighted, a trend we expect will continue.

So, obviously, her overall GPA won't ever be as high as kids who have been 4.+'s from the beginning but her transcript will show a sharp jump in scores along with an increase of difficulty in classes taken (as more challenging option are available now.)

Just wondering what others have experienced in this matter.

Short answers yes, colleges like to see a positive trend.

Absolutely - keep up the good work those first two years won’t carry too much weight.
