Is it weird not to have your parents come with you to settle in things in your dorm?

My parents aren't able to come and I feel kinda weird not having my parents come with me to move in things.

I don’t think it’s “weird” but as a mom I can’t imagine not being there! And you don’t seem comfortable with the idea either. Can someone else come? An older sibling? An aunt or uncle? Talk to your parents about it and hopefully you can come up with a solution that works for all of you! Good luck! :)

I have helped 2 frosh move in on moving day…neither room mate had a parent to help them. My guestimate is that it will be 60-40 parent help to no parent help on move-in day.

Ya gotta cut the apron strings sooner or later, so whether or not the good-bye is at home, at the airport, or at the dorm room it just doesn’t matter. What will matter is the future support, and how solid that is.

no it won’t. I am going to a new high school this september and my parents are not coming too. It wouldn’t be weird!!!

I agree that it is not weird at all. In fact, I admire you for it (and I am a parent). I did the same when I was in college which was far from home.
