Is it worth it for me to even apply to UCLA OOS? (financial situation in description)

@itsv and @auntbea I checked my own data (naviance/family connections) at my own school and found out what the average gpa and sat score is, my school is very competitive

thanks everyone for helping me out! I do know where else I am applying, good schools for skating, business/econ (what I want to do). Its just that after hearing what my dad said about georgetown’s offer to other universities, the first thing I thought about was UCLA, a school I would never apply to if georgetown hadnt given me that offer (if the offer is even valid). It would be a nice addition onto my college list if I can afford it

And even though that stuff was on the website, I think my dad has been working there for over 20 years so there may not be something on the website for those employers. I will ask my dad to talk to gtown financial benefits people, and that will determine whether or not I will be applying to ucla.

You also need to know the difference between tuition at UCLA and the fees charged to OOS students. Tuition for OOS students is not $24000 more than instate, it is a fee. Usually the tuition exchanges don’t pay fees.

Reality check: The averages posted by UCLA have to include students from linked California neighboring high schools, who have agreements with UCLA (lower socio-economic schools), for admission. So, for California residents, who don’t attend those schools, their scores have to be higher than posted, which means that your scores have to be even higher to even be considered. (My former students were aware of this.)

Did your “family connections” and own data" tell you that your grades in 10th and 11th grade are considered for UC admissions? Raising your GPA in senior year won’t be used for admission criteria because your application is due in November and those senior grades won’t be used in the calculations.

Point is moot since you won’t be able to afford the UC’s. We will, however, gladly accept your application fees, since our state needs the money.

You may want to try USC. Its more expensive than the UC’s, but has more scholarship monies.

@“aunt bea” yes, my “family connections” and “own data” did consider everyone’s 10th and 11th grade gpa.

IDK if this is true or not, but Ive also heard articles saying that UC schools are starting to accept more OOS because they need the money

^^but you don’t have the money.

Actually it is the opposite since last year, since the Governor of California and the UC President Napolitano came to an agreement to increase in-state student admissions and give no financial aid to OOS students. The UC’s will still continue to accept OOS to help off set costs, but as been pointed out many times, they are not affordable for you along with having a low chance at an acceptance to UCLA. You would have a chance at other UC campuses but do you and your parents want to spend $220K for 4 years to attend??

“IDK if this is true or not, but Ive also heard articles saying that UC schools are starting to accept more OOS because they need the money”

that is old news and in fact, the tables have been turned and NOW, as of this year, the UC’s are accepting MORE Calif students and have cut off FA entirely to OOS students.
so take ANY UC OFF your list of schools to apply to because your parents cannot afford to pay the tuition.
