Is it Worth it?

Hello! After being accepted into UConn and receiving my financial aid package, I learned that I may have to pay 30k a year. The way I will pay it off is with loans, however, over four years, that will accumulate to about 120k~. My parents said they will help me pay it off but I would probably have to pay off 40-60% of it on my own, after I graduate. Is it worth it? Regarding my major, I'm not sure yet but I would like to pursue a form of engineering. Also, for the reasons why I want to attend UConn is primarily because it has been my dream school for a long time. In addition, I dislike the environments of my state schools. Thank you! Please excuse any grammar mistakes I may have...

You really need to take some time to think about the situation. Think about how you will get $30K in loans per year. Stafford loans can only cover a portion of that. PLUS loans can cover the rest but your parents may not be interested in taking out a high amount of unsubsidized loans. The cost of attendance will also increase every year, but you can’t count on financial aid increasing every year (actually the opposite may happen).

If you end up paying 40% of that you would have to pay over $48K, which is a lot. I recommend you fully examine your financial situation with your parents and be realistic. Avoid getting into heavy debt.
