Is it worth the cost to go out-of-state for a CS degree?

I’m currently a high school senior in Oregon, and I’m wondering if it is worth it to go out of state to earn a Master’s degree in Computer Science. For an in-state school, I’m applying to the University of Oregon, and for an out-of-state school, I’m thinking of applying to the University of Washington or Texas A&M University.

I’ll be paying for college through the use of student loans (I’m looking into other forms of aid as well, but I will have to use student loans as my family makes too much to qualify for other forms of aid).

Is it worth it to go to an out-of-state school like University of Washington for $40k - $50k a year, as opposed to going to an in-state school (like University of Oregon) for $25k a year?

Do you mean you’ll be paying with loans entirely? If you’re trying to use federal loans, that’s impossible for $25k or $40k a year.

Would you be eligible for merit aid?

A masters degree is worth 1-2 years of additional experience. Employers don’t make any further distinctions on job postings. I don’t see any benefit going out of state.

My view also. You have a good in-state option. Try to minimize your loans. You are going to need to get your parents to co-sign your loans even in-state.
