I’m a sophomore economics major and I’m thinking it might be useful for me to join a business frat so I can network and have it on my resume.
I heard social frats are a ton of work but I’m not sure if Business frats are the same?
I’m not really interested in making friends and I don’t really like going to parties either. I purely just want to join for networking purposes. Is there any other benefit in joining or should I even bother?
I think it’s great idea as an Econ major (that may not be in the business school) to network with business students and employers. They can help you with your resume and interviewing skills.
There will also be social events that you can attend - or not
Yeah Economics is in the business school at my school. My school’s business school is called XXXX school of business and economics, so I’m assuming it is.
Different fraternities/chapters do things differently, but professional fraternities are much less work than social ones.
Certainly useful, however you sound like you want to join solely to take, not to give (don’t want friends, want the network exposure). Think about that. Networking is a two way street. You have to be someone others want to network with. Once you get in professional organizations (this is the start of that), you’ll find it’s about the organization and htose who participate for the right reasons happen to benefit from networking (Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, Industry orgs, etc.) Those that join strictly to receive benefits generally don’t because they have nothing to offer.
In my experience, the best outcome you’ll have from joining an organization is one that you are truly passionate about. You’re in the business school. I’m sure your school has clubs that pertain to your major (finance, accounting, consulting, etc.) You can get great networking done there too, while meeting up with others who share your interests. You will probably meet some great people and make some new friends (even if you don’t want to).
