is materials engineering a subdiscipline of Chemical engineering ?

Which is the closest major to Materials engineering ?

Some schools have it as a sub-program in the chemical engineering department, some have it in mechanical engineering, and some have it as its own department. Really, nearly all of the engineering disciplines are in some way interrelated. How it is classified at a given university likely has more to do with the research thrusts of the faculty rather than inherent features of materials science.

I am in Chem Eng department in Turkey, which has a ABET equality and that is why i wonder that.

In my D’s school, MSE is a separated major but also one of the 3 focuses under ChemE. There are only 14-18 more credits if one want to double major both ChemE and MSE but one has to choose a different focus for ChemE in that case.

MechE vs ChemE

Which one is closer to materials ?

Did you read anything I said before?

“Closer” as in having the most similar curriculum (classes)? Neither, it’s not like AeroE and MechE (or Civil and Environmental), where they share many of the same (upper level) classes.

Really, it’s three distinct majors. It’s possible for ME and ChemE’s to get a minor in MSE (if offered at that school), and wouldn’t be that uncommon. It’s also equally possible for both to go on to grad school in MSE.

Nothing yells out that one is “closer” to MSE than another…
