My question is this: will the college take the money owed out of my scholarships and grants before they take it out of the loans? Because I have enough money to pay this bill with just the scholarships and loans so obviously I don't want them to take money out of the loans so that I have to pay them back. Someone please tell me!

The way my Ds school does it is that all the financial aid for the semester is paid into the bursars account. This includes scholarships, grants and loans. Once the money is paid into the bursar account it is not split by source - it is just a total sum of money. Then the costs are charged against that total sum. Once the loan is paid into the bursars account you owe the money.

You would need to decline the loan before it is disbursed to avoid this situation in the future.
