1080qaz: Thank you so much! I’m looking forward to applying! You’re right about IR too. Mount Holyoke honestly sounds amazing!

Hi Chelsea,

I’m so glad you decided to apply! I graduated from MHC several years ago and absolutely loved it. It is academically demanding, but it was such a great environment to be in. If you have a chance to visit the campus, I highly recommend it…you will fall in love with it. Have you received any brochures from the college? See the beautiful pictures? That’s what it looks like, seriously.

As a previous post indicated, there is great overlap between political science and international relations so I’m pretty sure an advisor would recommend against that and focusing on an IR major only and potentially doing a 5-college certificate in middle east studies if that’s what you’re interested in.

ALSO, if you apply online, MHC will waive your application fee (which means you won’t need to pay to apply!) and I’m sure that will help you ease your application stress!

South Hadley is small, but I always found something to do on campus and with the 5-college system, you can always go to Amherst or Northampton for lunch or dinner with friends…or even a weekend trip to Boston or NYC. When I went to MHC, there was a Peter Pan bus line that you could take to get to Boston with ease, though the drive is faster if you or a friend have a car!

If you have any further questions, let me know!

I see that you are concerned with application fees…they can add up. You might be interested in this: “The application fee is waived if you apply online…”

My daughter had a fabulous experience at Mount Holyoke. Best of luck!

icesk8mom: Thanks!

I requested information from them, and I’ve fallen in love. MHC isn’t my first choice, but I would be thrilled to be accepted.

HelloImChelsea, Although I grew up in a large city, I currently reside in Des Moines, Iowa. I am a graduate of MHC. If you reside in Missouri in a town of 2000 you will not find South Hadley to be “in the middle of nowhere”. The northeast is very different from the midwest. Even though South Hadley is a small town getting around on weekends is much easier than you might think having grown up in a small town in the midwest. Northhampton is a very cool town and quick bus ride from South Hadley. Boston is at most only a couple of hours. There are also so many colleges nearby. Getting around is so much easier in the northeast and there are so many places to go.

Swimming08 Thank you! It seems like a really cool town. I’m glad to get so much feedback.

Wow…and I thought that my town of 23,000 was pretty small. Out of curiosity, how is the art program there? Computer science? I’m thinking of trying to transfer there.
