Is my college list balanced?

Hi,

I’m a Junior from the Bay Area and I’m looking to see if my college list is balanced. Not really looking for specific chances (yes I know Stanford is a reach) but more if the schools I’m applying to fit in the tier I put them and if my list is safe/balanced. If you have any suggestions for places to apply please let me know. Thanks for your help!

College list:

Matches:
USC, UC Berkeley, UCLA, Georgetown, NYU Stern

Safeties:
UCSB, UCSD, U of Michigan Ann Arbor (Early)

How does my list look? Is everything in the right tier for me?

Your list looks pretty good although I wouldn’t call umich a safety, especially as oos. Also, if you want to major in business and want to go to Ross it can be hard to get into. So I wouldn’t call it a safety by any means.

None of your matches are matches. They’re pretty much reaches for everyone, although USC comes close.

UMichigan is not a safety. I’m not sure if UCSD should be there either.

You’re going to need matches (around 20-30% acceptance rate).

Are you sure you can write that many college essays?

Honestly, your list (like mine a few years ago) seems to show that you have done very little research on colleges. I would advise you to stay flexible, and when you have time, do some more research on not only the schools on your list, but also other schools. Use CC to find schools that other people think you might like, and do some research on them. Try to limit your reaches; we all want to apply to all the top schools for their names.
