Is my essay topic too much?

I'm thinking of talking about global awareness as the skill that most appeals to me. Basically, I want to start off my essay speaking about Colombia's guerilla (FARC). I want to bring to light how children are bring recruited to join as young as age 8. I feel like a war that has been raging for 5 decades is something the world should be aware of; just like we're all watching Syria and Egypt's horrors. Note, my entire essay won't be about this (that'd be just depressing). I just want to use this as an example of how ignorant we can be at times and how children's lives are at stake.

I feel like this a good topic for me, being Colombian and all. Talking about the country where my entire family is from is already personal and unique to me; I want FSU to hear my voice, not just see my GPA and test scores.

So, any opinions? I'd be very appreciative >.<

That sounds like a good example. However, keep in mind that the essay should be 500 words or less, so if you are going to discuss more than one example you will have to be brief in both examples. That could impact your essay quality a bit, so just be mindful while writing. :)

I agree - this sounds like a great start for your essay.
