Hey ppl I have a 3.54 unweighted and I’m currently a junior is this good enough for the university of miami? I’m going to bring it up for sure bc I’m doing really good in my ap classes and everything in general so I’m hoping by early decision 2 of 2017 to get it up to ab a 3.67
What else do you have? Test scores? Course rigor? EC’s? Special circumstances?
Honestly, weighted gpa is more important. That shows the rigor of your coursework. You should be fine.
@nrvsabtcllg Umm, I doubt it… @Queenbee1144 Solely basing admissions by GPA is not even possible. As @yanguin said, what other characteristics will make you stand out as a student to be accepted into the university? This would include your ECs, Couse rigor, Test scores, essays, etc. HOWEVER, as I said, I do doubt @nrvsabtcllg because based on my knowledge, universities will put your GPA on an unweighted scale (I may be wrong, as it is possible not all universities do this). Then, for example, if you and another student both have the same GPA, it’ll come down to if you took AP classes or not, and then your other outside-of-school activities.
Actually, it’s not. There is no common rubric that HS’s use to weight, so a college will either use UW GPA, or will reweight GPA to their parameters.
To the OP, you GPA is just one part of the application package. Course rigor, SAT/ACT scores, EC’s, essays, recs, all come into play, depending on the college.
It’s pretty bad.
@AFutureStudent well thanks
@Queenbee1144 Don’t listen to @AFutureStudent. Is it bad for HYPSM, Berkeley, Caltech, other top schools? Yes, it’s not the best. However, these make up a very small portion of schools in the nation, and there would be thousands of school that would be a match for you. Don’t get discouraged. And remember that though grades are a large part of your app, they aren’t everything, so you have a lot more going for (or against, depending on how you make it play out) you. Good luck
I completely messed up my first two years and my unweighted GPA is still significantly higher than yours. I am not trying to be mean or discouraging at all; this is my own opinion/experience and you are old enough to decide on your own whether or not to listen to me.
@AFutureStudent lol alrightyyyyy
If you check the common dataset for 2015-2016, the average enrolled GPA was 3.6. No your GPA is not bad but below average. Remember admissions is not only about GPA but many other factors. Always have several schools on your list so you have some choices.

@Gumbymom thank you!!
I think your GPA really depends on your academic rigor. Without having an idea of the classes (AP, honors, etc.) you’ve taken, it’s really difficult to judge.
@anxiousteen freshman year all regular bc I got accepted to the school a week before it started sophomore all honors except for math/bible this year 2 ap rest honor except for bible/math/chem. And I took all my electives out of the way freshman year so sophomore and this year have been all core classes or electives that are important classes. Thinking of taking an ap course on virtual to help boost up my gpa a little more
2 APs in your junior year is decent (I took 3 myself in that year). Ace those classes and you’re good to go! Nonetheless, keep in mind that your GPA is just one piece of the puzzle, apart from standardized test scores, teacher recommendations, essays, extracurricular activities, etc.
@anxiousteen ending first quarter with a+ in ap bio and hopefully b+ in ap us depending on how I did on the test
