Is NMF a deciding factor when it comes to College Admissions?

I just got my PSAT score back for Junior year and I received a 189 (same score as my sophomore year). I guess I'm satisfied with it, but being a National Merit Finalist would have made me ecstatic :(. Anyways I was wondering if being a NMF would be a deciding factor in relation to College Admissions. For example, lets say you have 2 students, Student A and Student B, applying to a top tier college (like Duke). Both students have similar ECs, the same GPA, difficult course work, etc. But Student A was a NMF (lets say he scored a 219), while Student B wasn't. But Student B received a higher SAT score (2250) than Student B. Who would be accepted, Student A or Student B?

thanks

no one cares.

Not a deciding factor. They’d probably judge it off recs, interview, and essays.

It’s just a damn test. Stupid college board, why should one test be the determining factor for a major scholarship? Why not just make it the SAT that determines scholarship awards?

For some schools, NMSF makes all the difference. For the school’s most CCers are concerned with, NMSF is just another bullet point on a list.

Some schools offer significant merit scholarships for NMF, but for the more competitive schools, it really doesn’t matter
