I got that too.
Just assumed it was a scam.

I’m a member, but I’m definitely not writing it on my college application. Lol

My daughter got this letter today too. She was so very excited to have gotten some recognition because she is very introverted. After I told her it was a scam, after doing some research, she was heartbroken. She thought she had actually gotten a reward for something. It broke my heart to see her ego boosted and then let down lower than it was before. It is a scam just to get money. No honor should have to be paid for.
^The same thing happened to me.
we got it today too; but i opened it before my daughter had a chance; and i tossed it.
A special invitation isnt going to be bulk mailed. i get annoyed at these things; and others similar “you’ve won” things that are targeted to my kids. they are still naive about marketing and dont realize how these companies work yet; and over the years they have felt disappointment.
I got one, and just looking at it I’m like “oh look you need to buy our membership fee, but you can also spend your money on this this and this? Haha no you get no money” although they’re getting pretty good at marketing: handwritten address and school name, and a PS that stated that my English teacher had won something from them in 2010. shakes head
No, it is complete bogus! I would equate being a member of this organization to being a member of Costco or Sam’s Club!
@trent6543 Why the hate on Costco or Sam’s Club? lol
@bgbg4us I got it yesterday too, and was like extremely happy lol. Oh well, now that I have read it’s a scam, my happy mood has been removed. I legitly thought I was being honored for my awesome school work, but yet again, it’s a scam. Oh well…
I’m moderator of NHS at my school.
Yesterday I posted a memo on my school website. It warned any student who got those letters that our school did NOT provide their names. We haven’t yet gotten this year’s grades, and have no idea who will be inducted next year. (That will be determined in late August.)
Those letters are NOT from the National Honor Society. NHS does NOT solicit members. Each school communicates with NHS members on its own; there is no national registry of any sort.
The people who received those letters were NOT nominated by our school.
Throw them out!!! They’re a scam.
Same. I got it yesterday and was all excited. So was my mom. We were actually gonna do it too. Now that I’ve read this, just disappointed. Actually thought I was being recognized for my hard work
@Blaize08 Right lol.
No one is denying anyone’s hard work.
But THIS Is not the recognition for it.
When school starts in the fall, speak to the NHS moderator at your school about how to qualify in your school. But know that there’s no cost involved.
I was JUST about to send in the $60. Thankfully I saw this.
I was so proud of myself!
You can still be proud if your grades are high enough that you think you received those honors!!! This simply isn’t the platform for recognizing those grades.
I got an invitation letter, too. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten a letter from a legit academic organization. Most of them are for ridiculously expensive educational tours of European countries.
i agree
If it’s not a scam, then why did you buy 8 memberships… doesn’t it say you have to pay the fee only once for a lifetime??
My mom already accepted the invitation but now I’m trying to deactivate the account that was made for me but i can’t find a way in nshss’s website. Is there anyway i can get out of it?
I feel bad. I was so excited to be recognized by a fancy looking honor society that I didn’t think that “no honor should have to be paid for.” I realized that yea, anyone can get in and there’s not much benefit to it so I may have just wasted my parents’ money.
