Interesting article in today's Inside Higher Ed about the continued search for a new PSU president. It's depressing that there appear to be so few viable candidates for a position at this level. Aren't there any PSU alumni who could meet the requirements (and would presumably choose it over Ohio State and Michigan, who are also looking for new CEOs)?

Penn State Finds Its New President at Florida State

Eric J. Barron, the president of Florida State University and a nationally known climatologist, was named on Monday as the president of Penn State University, which has spent the past year trying to find a new leader in the wake of the 2011 Jerry Sandusky child sex-abuse scandal.

In selecting Mr. Barron, a former professor and dean at Penn State, the university will get an effective fund-raiser who worked to widen F.S.U.'s donor base, sought to mend fences with the football coach Bobby Bowden after his firing in 2009, and labored to improve the finances of the school’s athletics department. Mr. Barron has been praised for his efforts to boost F.S.U.'s research standing; at the same time, he has shown he is comfortable running a school where football is a defining force.

Great news! And he sounds like a much better choice that that SUNY guy.
