I scored a research internship with a professor, and just when we're about to begin she defers me to one of her master's students to work with instead. Does this decrease the significance of the internship?

Almost no one actually gets to work with the principal investigator. Half of the P.I.s that I know are never even in their labs because they are busy writing papers and applying for more grant money. It is perfectly normal for the grad students, post docs, and technicians to do all of the day-to-day work of the lab. Don’t worry about this one. As long as you are cheerful, cooperative, and willing to learn, you will have a great time in this internship!

Thanks for your supportive words, happymomof1! :D

bumpppppppp

bump again!

Happymom is right.

Yes, I did research as a master’s degree student, and the undergrads worked for me. My supervising professor never stepped foot in the lab.

Thanks guys! I wanted more than just one opinion. :)
