<p>I felt kind of unsafe when I heard an escaped prisoner was seen a few blocks away from Rice… he’s arrested again though lol</p>
<p>I also live ~10 minutes from campus, and it’s not at all unsafe. Rice is in a very nice neighborhood; there are shadier areas in Houston, but Rice isn’t in one of them. There’s a synagogue/daycare center just across the street, and a moderately high-class shopping center within walking distance.</p>
<p>Every Saturday, I go off campus (by foot) with my friends, and I’ve been getting the impression so far that Rice’s off-campus surrounding is fairly safe. When you’re going out at night though, you probably want to go out in groups of at least 3 or 4 just 'cause you never know what kind of people are out there. </p>
<p>I’m a freshman btw at Rice.</p>
