Hello,

As the pace of technology is accelerating and modern life is constantly gentrifying, standards predictably are going to change. The question is : is the SAT also conforming to this change? Is the SAT becoming more challenging? I have a relative that applied to the SAT 4 years ago and got a 600 in the CR. I asked him what did he study for me to imitate. He said nothing 100 words and its all O.K. However, although we both have the same mastery in English, he beat me in more than 100 points ... Now, a lot of people are saying that the SAT has changed over these years. They assert that colleges have demanded college board to empower the test rather than them raising the needed score, thereby subtly raising the roof for applicants. This is what they say. I am not sure of its authenticity. This why I posted. Is the SAT becoming MORE challenging?

Thank you for your time

I don’t think it’s becoming more challenging in general, but some tests can be harder for certain people than others. My score on practice tests has fluctuated from 2220 to 2270.

What about the claims of some people ? Is it true?

No. There is no intended change in tests 4-5 years apart.

Yeah. Cuz I took one of the more recent test… And I was blown away by the hardness

The SAT is actually not allowed to become more challenging, unless they make an official statement that they have changed the test. This change happened in 2005 when they went from a 1600 scale to a 2400 scale.

But an 1800 received by a student in 2005 should be the same as an 1800 received by a student in 2013. This is the point of “standardized tests.” They are simply not allowed to get easier/harder.

Anyway any difference in difficulty between the tests should be accounted for with the curves. So while it may be harder to get all the questions right on a certain test due to luck, it should be roughly the same difficulty to get an 800.
