Just wonder if anyone has any advice on whether or not it's a good idea to do SAT tutoring during the summer. My son has a call back interview today with a company that sends college students overseas in the summer to tutor high school students. All expenses paid. Great salary. He is pretty excited about the prospect but worried that he can't really teach (has great test scores but has never tutored).

Anyone have any experience with this type of thing?

I did SAT tutoring for a while. It was fun to help the kids. It’s helpful to know whether there is an established program you follow (w/specific resources) or if you have to make it up a good deal on your own (more work the second way).

I’d double check that the salary was guaranteed, no matter how many hrs you tutor. You can only tutor one kid for about 2 hours at a stretch. If there were fewer kids for some reason, then possibly the salary would drop a lot.

I’d also (of course, I’m sure you have) the validity of the program – to make sure it’s reputable, safe, etc. Good luck.

I’m looking to maybe tutor overseas this summer. What is the name of the program your son is considering?

My D did SAT tutoring but she didn’t go overseas. At her interview, she had to audition and did a mock teaching session. Your son will soon find out whether he can teach or not perhaps at his interview.
