Harvard recommends SCEA if a) you feel confident in your first six semesters of work (seems like it), b) can present a great package by the due date of Nov 1, c) are willing to forego other private school ED/ED options, d) if Harvard is your #1 choice and you really want to hear an accept/defer/reject decision by mid December and e) are an otherwise viable candidate.
If YES to all these five, go for it. Good luck.
As for your “chances” no one can really give you that. That’s a fool’s errand.
For the record, the definition of URM is underrepresented minorities and it applies to US citizens only, specifically US citizens who are African-American, Mexican-Americans, Native Americans (that is, American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians), and mainland Puerto Ricans. You can not be a URM if you are an international student.
Secondly, if you are indeed an international student (home country?), you should understand that Harvard limits the number of international students to around 10% to 11% of their incoming class. With a freshman class of about 1660, that means that Harvard admits about 160 to 190 international students per year – and most of those students come from just six counties: Canada, The United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, Japan, Korea and China.
If you go to the Harvard International Office Statistics page (http://www.hio.harvard.edu/statistics) and select from the pull down menu STUDENTS, YOUR COUNTRY, HARVARD COLLEGE (the undergraduate school), you can see how many of your fellow countrymen are currently attending the college. Divide that number by 4 to get an idea of about how many students are admitted from your country each year. Harvard doesn’t publish the number of applicants from each international country, so you might be one of hundreds or thousands applying from your country – it’s anyone’s guess.
As @T26E4 said, if you are confident in your essays, teacher recommendations, grades and transcript and Harvard is your number one choice, then you should apply SCEA. Keep in mind though that in the last couple of SCEA cycles, Harvard defers or rejects about 85% of SCEA applicants.
Well then, being LGBT is not taboo in ALL of the United States, is it? In fact, almost a third of US states now have anti-discrimination laws regarding sexual orientation: https://www.aclu.org/map/non-discrimination-laws-state-state-information-map. You might not live in one of those states, but If you’re going to ask for advice, it’s always best to be honest, as it calls into question your character, integrity and honesty in the rest of your post.
Harvard rejects very few applicants in the SCEA cycle and they defer about 82% to 85% of SCEA applicants. So students applying SCEA should expect to be deferred (and pleasantly surprised if they are accepted). Best of luck to you!
Thank you! I meant my home country as in the country where my parents are from I know it’s not taboo in the US lol. I thought my post was very honest I will see to it that I double check
