Is St. Louis right for me???

Hello, I am a northerner who is a hard working student who does well in school. I like a lot of extra help especially in math and science. I am also involved in a lot of after school activities and sports. For college, I am majoring in nutrition and dietetics. I have some questions for anyone who has gone or goes to St. Louis, knows about it, or has been in the nutrition and dietetics program:

  1. Is it difficult to get to St. Louis U from CT? How do I get there?
  2. How is the food at SLU
  3. is the program for nutrition and dietetics cut throat,/ competative? Is the nature of the school competative and cut throat?
  4. How is the extra help/ teacher availability/ willingness to help?
  5. how is the athletics?
  6. What is the housing like?

Thank you so much!! I also applied to Texas Christian U, Dayton, U Pitt, James Madison U, U Delaware and UCONN. I need to make a decision in 28 days I need help!!! Thank you so much for whatever you can tell me

I don’t attend SLU so idk about the other stuff but the general nature of the school definitely isn’t cut throat

I can’t answer all of your questions, but my daughter goes to SLU and loves it. She liked the food fine; only a couple of dining halls but with decent choices. Plenty of other choices that have days when they accept campus dining money. As the post above mentioned, SLU overall is not cut throat at all. We looked at Washington University in St. Louis (very competitive) and SLU (very cooperative). SLU students seem genuinely willing to help each other in every way. The campus seems to be filled with friendly, kind kids. No football team; soccer and basketball are the big sports. My daughter didn’t live in the “mostly freshman” dorm (Griesdeck is the big co-ed tower where a lot of freshman live, with a smaller all-girls dorm on one side and all-boys dorm on the other side.) The rooms in Griesdeck are fairly small, as are most typical dorm rooms at most schools. Instead, she and her roommate (who she met on their Facebook page) lived in a double in Fusz. Awesome, huge room. A lot of the rooms in Fusz are singles though, so some people are placed in singles if they don’t sign up with a roommate. But even those who are in singles wind up coming out and getting to know everyone on their floor. A few floors of Fusz house the honor students – and I think all of those rooms are singles. My daughter declined the honors thing – there wasn’t really any advantage to the program (no early registration) – but can still graduate with honors. Also with regard to housing, you can live in an on-campus apartment your second year. Also really nice and spacious. You didn’t ask about it, but SLU’s study abroad program is awesome. A huge number of kids study abroad, especially in Madrid because SLU has a campus there. If you study in Madrid, your scholarship transfers, making tuition pretty cheap for that semester.

There are flights from Hartford to STL on Southwest Airlines. They connect through Chicago. There are also flights between LaGuardia and STL. I don’t know about SLU’s nutrition program but its overall reputation for health related fields is very good. There is a small college here called Fontbonne. I know someone who attends there, majoring in dietetics. There is a lot of housing near campus. Two new dorms. There’s an IKEA nearby, restaurants, and theaters. Oops, sorry, now I see this is an old post.
