Just wondering if submitting my CA earlier is more advantageous through regular decision. I would assume to (to a small extent) simply because they recieve your application earlier and therefore have more time to look through it, but I would like some more informed thoughts.
Unless the school practices rolling admissions, getting your application in before the deadline won’t make any difference.
This is probably unusual, but today I noticed on Rochester’s website that submitting RD apps by Dec 1 may be advantageous.
@evergreen5 The Dec. 1 date for URochester is to get the best shot at a scholarship. Certainly the OP (or anyone) needs to be aware of any deadlines that applications should be submitted by for maximum merit aid consideration. But getting an application in before the deadline has no impact in terms of admission.
@happy1 I thought it sounded unusual. The 2016-17 fact sheet states “*Applications received prior to this date will be given the strongest consideration for admission and merit scholarships.” https://enrollment.rochester.edu/wp-content/media/2016/12/Fact-Sheet-2016-17.pdf The asterisk is both for Dec 1 freshman RD and for transfer applications - maybe the mention of “admission” only applies to transfers?
It depends on the school. In most cases, it would not help much, if any, admission chance. At most, it may be counted as expression of interest. Some schools do have a priority deadline ahead of the RD deadline. Also, some schools do rolling admission. In these cases, submitting application early would help. Nevertheless, it is encouraged to submit your application ahead of deadline. It will allow you to track your application and if anything turns out missing, you will have time to take action before it is too late.
@evergreen5
I saw this on the website for freshman admissions: “To be given highest scholarship consideration, please send all application materials to Rochester by December 1.” https://enrollment.rochester.edu/apply/freshmen/#tab2
Anyway so as not to hijack the thread with information about one college the OP may or may not be interested in suffice it to say that it is important to check the website of every college and be sure the application is in by the deadline for maximum consideration.
