Is the acronym in "AYSO soccer" fine to use in college essays?

I have never heard of AYSO either.

In my locale here in the Silicon Valley area, AYSO is quite popular. Both my kids started playing AYSO before transitioning to club soccer. Some kids want to keep playing organized soccer, but either aren’t talented enough for the local soccer clubs or don’t want to make the “FT” commitment to one or any sport.

I just looked it up - there is no AYSO in MA. Seems to be a regional thing.

I can’t believe this thread is this long, lol. Suffice it to say that if you are immersed in the soccer world, as @sushiritto and I are, you have heard of AYSO. If you are not steeped in youth soccer, you probably haven’t heard of it. An admissions reader is very likely to have no idea of the connotations of AYSO.

Even if you were playing, coaching, assisting, etc. on the USMNT or USWNT, you better believe that you should still have to spell it out for the admissions reader. :grinning:

Although you would be a recruited athlete at that level and the college coach would be salivating over your app reader’s shoulders.
