Do you think it's alright to use abbreviations specific to a certain school, like SAS for School of Arts and Sciences (the school itself uses this abbreviation at times too).
Or also like BAS (bachelor of applied science)?

Or should we write out the entire thing? Because the thing is, the essay that I'm writing has a very small word limit for a lot of stuff to say.

Well, if it is specific to the school and you expect the admissions officer to know it off the top of his/her head, then go ahead. I would avoid, say, using an abbreviation for a specific club/fraternity at the school because there are quite a lot and the admissions officer might not know that. Personally, I wouldn’t use it, and, if I absolutely had to, I would write it in the full form first, with the abbreviation in brackets, then use the abbreviation from that point onwards.

oh ok. Thanks! I was planning to put SEAS for School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, which is one of the 4 undergraduate schools at the university. I’m pretty sure the officer would know this lol.
