Is the Computer Science major run by the Math Department?

Hey, I would like to ask if the Computer Science major is run by the Math Department?

It depends on the college. Not usually these days. Look at the college websites for more info.

Totally depends on the college/university.

  • In some colleges, CS is part of Math Department of the College of Arts & Sciences.
  • In some colleges, CS is its own department in the College of Arts & Sciences.
  • In some colleges, CS is its own department in the College of Engineering.
  • In some colleges, CS is part of the EE department in the College of Engineering.

And just to confuse you even more, some schools (Univ Maryland - College Park) has it own College of Mathematical and Computing Sciences which houses the CS department.

Also, some smaller schools are not divided into divisions (“College of Arts and Sciences”, “College of Engineering”, etc.). CS may be a standalone department or a part of another department at such a school.
