Is The Coronavirus Preventing Students From Taking The SAT?

"The coronavirus (COVID-19) was officially declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization on March 11, after infiltrating at least 114 countries and killing more than 4,000 people. The disease has caused governments to implement strict quarantine rules, travel bans, and more, which is starting to affect other aspects of people’s lives, including their higher education options.

Students across the world are in limbo after both the College Board (the organization that gives the SAT) and ACT canceled testing dates in February and March. According to the College Board website, the March 14 testing date has been canceled in areas affected by the coronavirus, due to travel restrictions and school closures. More than fifteen countries have been impacted, including China, Greece, Italy, Japan, Qatar, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates.

The College Board states that more test sites could continue to close, depending on how the situation develops. The College Boarding is refunding all fees or allowing international students to change their testing dates to one of the upcoming dates (May 2 or August 29)." …

I hope they don’t cancel this weekend’s administration.

On the collegeboard website there is a list of test site/school closures by state and directions on what students registered at those sites should do. https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat/register/test-center-closings

Collegeboard has cancelled the March test in a number of international locations:

I think it’s going to depend on if the school the test is being held in closes or not. I’ve got my fingers crossed that nobody is quarantined in the district this week!! LOTS of NYC commuters, but I’m hearing a bunch of companies are letting workers telecommute. We just gotta get through the week!!!

Lots of SATs have been cancelled or moved. There’s a link on another thread on this page, but College Board has a list (not totally up to date). I doubt APs will be canceled at this point. I’m sure they’ll keep an eye on the situation and make a decision closer to May if this sticks around.

Yes, in our area with the closing of Germantown Academy those kids had their SAT for 3/14 cancelled. My D is scheduled to take her SAT on 3/14 and our school is still open but it is day by day here because we have 9 cases in our county right now. A communication went out that they have changed the format to separate the students into smaller sections/rooms to take the test to avoid a large grouping of students in one area.

It’s changing daily. All students should check the College Board website on test morning.

Are there schools listed in a forum–College Board is behind on posting closures. I know Harvard Westlake closed school and cancelled all activities yesterday, including the SAT and not on the CB closed list.

The site is far behind on updating cancellations. The CB page indicates students will be informed via email . .wondering as site coordinator when I might be notified?

Many school districts in the NY/NJ area are planning for closures, with some already doing so. Do you think the 3/14 SAT test will be cancelled?

My son is due to take several AP tests in May. Has anyone run into SATs being cancelled or delayed? Concerned because depending on how he does on the exam it could mean thousands of dollars in state scholarships or not.

From the College Board -
“College Board has canceled March 14 SAT registrations in areas affected by coronavirus (COVID-19) out of concern for student health and safety, and in accordance with guidance issued by international health organizations, evolving travel restrictions, and school closures.”

Here’s the link to specific test center location:
https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat/register/test-center-closings

local NJ Highschool that is hosting the SAT sent emails out to their students that the March 14 test is cancelled. Emails about refunds, re-registering for future tests will be sent out. That was 4 hours ago, no email and no update on the Collegeboard Website. Would hope for confirmation sooner rather then later as test is 2 days away.

My kid’s 3/14 SAT test is cancelled. No reassignment or makeup available.

As of now, ours is still on. We’ll see…everyone around us cancelled. Really hoping she gets to take it!

Bergen and Hudson County locations will be cancelling

San Diego cancelled the 3/14 SAT’s.

The NYC DOE has cancelled the 3/14 SAT exam

Our location (Connecticut) still on. Unsure if I should let my son take it . . . .

where did you see that info? we haven’t received an email. our public school is not on the CB list. thank you!

The college board website has a page where you can see all the locations that are closed.
