By going to NYU, over four years I will accumulate approximately 100K in debt... My dad is making a really good salary but he's being spiteful and refusing to help me pay for college! I want to get into a GOOD well-known med-school, not just any... will NYU up my chances for doing that?

if you become a doctor, paying back 100K in loan would be nothing. So I would say go for it. But then again, NYU is my dream skool :)

No undergraduate education is worth $100K of debt. How will you afford medical school? You won't be able to go to med school because you'll have a HUGE loan to pay off. Your dad is right. Period.

Think of it this way. New doctor's are faced with about 100K worth of debt AFTER med school. You'll be facing that debt BEFORE YOU GO to med school. It's a huge bill, and for an undergrad degree...i can't imagine it being worth it.

I've heard from others that many students graduate medical school with 200-250k in debt, so I imagine than 100K total is a rather good deal, overall. However, since you're facing that just to get a bachelor's degree, you might want to consider going elsewhere. Make no mistake - NYU's pre-med preparations are top-notch, but you could get a similar education with much less debt.

Best of luck to you, ladyconfused. :)

I don't think it's worth it.. i mean nyu's premed preparation IS excellent, but like already been said, you can get the similar quality education(or even better considering cost)
I've also thought about going to nyu for premed.. but i think im leaning toward for UT just because it's much cheaper
