Is the math of the old SAT easier than the math of the new SAT?

Was the new SAT math made harder? I find the math questions in the 10 REAL SATs book easier than the math question of the blue book.

meh, depends if u're good at quantitative comparison or not

i'd say the new math is easier

(quantitative comparison was on the old sat)

(it was annoying!)

Hm. I like quantitive comparison though.

Quant. was easy for smart people. New SAT is unfortunately better for people who aren't that smart, but work really hard. :(

I liked QC too, but whatever, 800 on the new one!

"New SAT is unfortunately better for people who aren't that smart, but work really hard."

Ouch! What's wrong with that? The SAT isn't an intelligence or IQ test and was never meant to be, so why is it unfortunate that the new SAT is better serving its purpose? What's wrong with people who work hard and get good scores? I mean, I worked really hard for my 720Math but didn't study at all for my 800CR, 800W, or 800 SAT2 Lit. Sorry, I guess that offends you in some way.

I agree that the new SAT math is "easier" though.

That's actually just blatantly wrong jimbob. The SAT's original intention was to be an IQ test of sorts, hence the name Scholastic Aptitude Test rather than Scholastic Achievement Test. If it was meant to be a test that measured one's ability in a subject that is studied for, then it would have been labeled an achievement test. But you're right in saying that the new SAT is moving away from being a measure of intelligence or aptitude, but I happen to think this is a tragedy. If schools want to measure a student's achievement, AP scores and GPA's work pretty well for that.

thats like insinuating that im stupid x__o;
quantitative comparison is just easier to make stupid mistakes. anyone is prone to that!

easier or not really depends which way you look at it. Informationwise, the new SAT is harder than the old SAT whereas the old one only asks Algebra and Geometry, and the new one asks about Algebra II also as well as combinatorics and probability. It's a lot harder (in my mind) to get an 800 on the old test because like minnanotabo said, it's a lot easier to make stupid mistakes on the quantitative comparison.
