Is the total cost of 16k a year for college too much?

That costs covers the out-of-state tuition and boarding with the meal plan. What if my family has a total income of 40k a year, can we afford it? Also is 16k a year the actual cost or does it go down?

South Dakota State University is remarkably reasonable, especially for out of state students. Aren’t you an international student, according to your other posts (live in the Caribbean). Or are you a US citizen?

What do your parents say about $16K/year being affordable? They are the ones who will be paying!

The tuition and room/board will go up every year.

You family have to decide that. Are you eligible for financial aid from Federal and/or school?

If your family has no asset or saving, it is not likely to afford $16k out of their $40k income. Ask your parent how much is affordable and then factor in the loan amount.

If its not affordable, sometimes you could get more money if you ask the school. I said SOMETIMES. Good luck :)>-

Unless your parents have a big savings acct, I really doubt that they can pay $16k per year out of a $40k income. They probably cant even pay half that much.

Often for people with modest incomes, there isnt much money left over each month. To pay $16k per year, your family would have to have about 1400 per month “extra” after paying all bills, etc.

ASK your parents how much they can spend each year.
