I’m most likely going to UIC. I’ve heard that its a great school for engineering. why do so many people talk badly about it? i feel like since people talk badly about it motivates me not to go. like is it too easy to get in that basically anyone can go? like the people who always slack off in high school? i want to be around people who care about their studies!! smart people. lol. my school is very divided when it comes to that… like you have your smarts… and your thugs/people who dont care. i dont like that. i want to be around good people. Whats the diversity like? just curious
“Is the university of Illinois at Chicago a bad university?”
No.
In my experience, there’s no winning that battle.
There are definitely people who do care about what they’re studying, and there are those who don’t. This happens everywhere no matter where you go.
To say the least, college is nothing like high school in that regard. People will actually be trying hard to pass classes (even if they hate what they’re studying) because it’s a huge money sink otherwise.
And people will say crap about every school. You shouldn’t cross certain schools off your list just because people say bad things about it. Because, in the end, you get what every other graduate gets: a piece of cardboard paper called a degree. Really, it’s about who you are and what you do with the knowledge you gain that really matters.
In my experience, it tends to set up an incredibly toxic environment to think so rigidly. I really hate this expression, but seriously: you do you and F the rest. You’ll be much happier in the end if you don’t let other peoples’ perceptions decide the next four or more years for you.
If you are going to the school of engineering, you will likely be surrounded by like minded people who work hard and care about what they are studying. Will there be people that slack off and don’t care? Maybe, but there are people like that at every school. Just stick to your guns and know yourself. People are generally more mature in college and take their studies more seriously than in high school anyway.
U of I - Chicago is not a bad school. It just has the reputation of being ‘little brother’ to U of I - Urbana/Champaign and it is a little easier to get in compared UIUC, but it shouldn’t stop anyone from going there. It has some majors that are well worth going there for (Engineering, Social Work, Pharmacy) and is a very good school.
