I wouldn’t want to be the one to tell “Baldy Beverly” it’s time to go home…

You have a point, alwaysmom! Seems like 31 is old for someone who is still looking for that gigantic break that will take her out of community theatre and onto superstardom level.

I saw Beverly with a hat on and it really softened her look. I know we’re not voting, but just saying that since the mentors will be working with their team members on all aspects of reaching stardom, I hope growing some hair will be tops on the list for Beverly.

PS: great name for the thread, jshain…thumbs up!

Watching the first episode on demand now

Frenchie has been on Broadway and in national tours, so she moved on from community theatre a while ago. Actually, I’m not sure she ever even did community theatre. What she’d really like is a recording career. She’s been singing and performing gigs steadily both in NYC and in L.A. but a true recording career is a difficult thing to establish.

I guess I was looking at her post Broadway gigs:

Not a lot happening since the last national tour in May 2009. Agree that a recording career would be just up her alley–but picking the right songs with the right production values is tough and expensive. A great producer can be key. Look at Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson. I think some of his best work came under Jones’s tutelage.

I loved some of Adam Lambert’s Idol songs, but haven’t been that impressed since. You can only do so many covers…to move on to the next step requires good original songs.

I’ll be interested to see what Christina can do for her…how amenable she will be to her mentoring. Same applies to Beverly–Christina has 2 team members who are pretty well into their careers, music styles, etc. Will they be open to change?

I hope that she’ll be amenable to mentoring. I’m fairly confident that she will. The opportunity here is something she’s wanted for a long time. By the way, the Hartford Stage and the Berkeley Playhouse are regional theatre productions, very different than community theatre.

I agree with you about Adam Lambert - I loved him on Idol and I think he has an incredible voice but I haven’t been thrilled with what he’s done since then.

Thanks for explanation, alwaysmom. I hadn’t realized exactly what regional theater encompassed.

No one’s tuning in tonight?

The surprise for me is that tonight I really loved that guy (I forget the name) who’s bald, earring and they said he was the father of 6. I didn’t like him at all before and he hadn’t made it through.

But tonight there were “second chances” for some because the teams weren’t filled out.

There were a couple I loved who didn’t get picked - but the names all run together for me.

Still liking the show.

^jmmom, that was Jared Blake and Blake picked him to be on his team. He was my absolute favorite artist on tonight’s show as well! I would buy his album in a heartbeat and help support all those kids!! He has a really unique voice. Kind of reminds me of Daughtrey only with a much better tone to his voice. I love the talent on this show, love the interesting mix of judges (who are all great artists), and the chemistry they have together is totally unique and refreshing. Can’t wait for the “Battle Rounds” next week, where each coach must get down to 4 artists…

What? I thought it was on Wednesdays!

I had a chance to see some of the second round performances on nbc.com

I really liked those 2 sisters who sang “Stuck like Glue” who were chosen by Cee Lo. And I’m glad that Jared Blake made it through on the second round. I liked his song on the second round better than the song he sang on the first round, but I thought he was pretty good on the first round.

I really liked Jared Blake. Looking forward to next week’s show when the contestants sing against each other in their groups.

ellemenope, I think they did a repeat last week on Wednesday from Tuesday night. They said they were going to be on at 10 pm next week, I think. I don’t like how slow American Idol goes, and in fact, stopped watching it because it was a real time sucker, but they said that they were going to cut four people from each team next week!

I didn’t like how the new turn down became, “The only reason I didn’t pick you was because I really thought you would be better with…”

why oh why are they putting this on at 10??..glad I have TIVO; again, I’m exhausted this morning cause I stayed up to watch…

I liked the show tonight, but thought the ending was kinda weird…

I will be the first one to say the my opinion about Adam Levine prior to this was obviously wrong; he used to creep me out for some reason…he’s actually a hoot…

I like Adam too (tho I had to google him to find out who he is and he has some creepy body art - glad he covers up for the show :-). However, I felt sorry for the guy that Adam said he chose because he needed a girl (thinking somehow the guy was one).

I’m so out of it, I didn’t know who Cee Lo or Adam Levine were prior to this show. But I knew Cee Lo’s music and loved it. Not Blake either, but I don’t know country. I said before but I’ll repeat again that I loved loved loved when the 4 coaches did a performance of Cee Lo’s “Crazy” first episode.

I get the feeling from this show that the coaches really plan to take their team members (some of their team members?) under their wings professionally and move them forward in the industry, not just through this contest. Maybe I’m just naive, but it seems like they plan to mentor these (often already in the biz but just not yet with the big break) performers longer term.

I’m looking forward to next week. I really liked Jared, Dia and the last girl who was chosen by Adam. There is a LOT of talent in the four teams and it really, at this point anyway, puts the American Idol kids in perspective. None of them is close to the talent, so far, with the exception of James, in my opinion.

I’m looking forward to see where this goes when they have to sing other songs. To me, the first time we see these singers they are usually showcasing a song that really works for their voice. By the time we hear their 2nd, 3rd, or 10th song, we’ll better to be able to get a sense of their deeper talent. This is where some of the one-song wonders fall into the Voice- or Idol-abyss.

Oh, and yes, I am really liking Adam and Cee-Lo and the country guy. We have an impression of them before this, and then we get to see they are really just good people. Christina is doing a good job, too, but I already knew more about her.

Is it really necessary for Christina’s boobs to be so much on display that they practically need their own rotating throne? She’s the mother of a small child, for heaven’s sake. I adore her voice, but the woman is totally classless.

Read on another website that Dia is half of a semi-failed (were once signed, but now aren’t) band called Meg and Dia, that the two sisters who kinda sorta harmonized were once on American Idol Juniors, and that Raquel Castro played the daughter in Jersey Girl. I guess we already knew that Javier Colon put out an album some years ago and that Frenchie is on the musical theater circuit. They really could subtitle the show “Second Chances”. But it’s not surprising, really–it’s hard to imagine that there is actually any great undiscovered talent out there that hasn’t already been through the American Idol or America’s Got Talent meat grinders. Heaven only knows where Simon Cowell is going to dredge up the contestants for X Factor.

Finally posting on this thread to say that I’m calling BS on Blake picking Patrick. The other guy was better.
